A Background of Sorts

It's all about Me, Me, Me....

I hope it doesn't seem too self-absorbed to create a website about.... well, me!

Well into my seventies and retirement, this website and my YouTube Channel are as much about keeping busy and occupying my mind ("idle hands..." and all that!) as anything else!

I decided to give this a try because I have many interests and hobbies and some time on my hands. I like sharing and thought this would be a good way to do it. As far as background, here it is...

I am currently married (thirty-eight years and counting). My wife retired in January 2018, and although we don't share many hobbies or interests, we enjoy traveling together and experiencing new things. My job is to document our travels (among other things).

I have been described as a Jack of All Trades (and a Master of maybe a very few).  A brief experience history by decade might go something like this;

  • 50s and early 60s—I was born and then decided somewhere along the way that I would be a (mad) scientist, cop, train engineer, superhero, artist, cowboy, chemist, electronics technician, soldier, actor... and on.... and on.... ad nauseam.
  • 60s - In the 1960s, I discovered that music made a difference in my life. :-) I played in a few bands with my brother (who went on to become a very accomplished musician!).
  • 70s – Graduated from United Electronics Institute of Technology School – Worked as a Technician in a color television  manufacturing plant - Ran sound for some local bands – Owned part of a  16/24 track recording studio (ANALOG BABY!) – worked in  “Hi-Fi” stores – worked as a technician in  the telecommunications industry
  • 80s – telecommunications industry as a technician and then a manager of technicians, test,  and assembly personnel
  • 90s – Industrial computer industry - Manager of Test and Repair at a computer manufacturer
  • 2000s - independent video acquisition and editing – IT and technology in Medical Academia
  • 2000s - Director and instructor for the NDLS (National Disaster Life Support) training program at UTSW
  • 2016 – Retired from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School
  • Present - Driving my wife crazy with my insane ideas, obsessions, and hobbies!

Throughout it all, I have always maintained my fascination with and love of music and music reproduction. I have always kept my hand on the AV side of things by buying and installing systems for myself, my friends, and others.

And, somewhere along the way, I discovered I have a small talent for cooking.

I also write... Books, reviews and stories.... any publishers out there???

I hope you find something of interest in all of this. Thanks for making it this far! I will update and change this site as I can, and it is very much a work in progress.

I welcome your comments and suggestions! Let me know how I'm doing!
