I like to Read and I like to Write
If I'm not working on my book ideas, I'm writing a review, commentary, or something else for this website. I read voraciously but not steadily. I will occasionally go into a "no-read" mode for a few days. Then, I will finish a few things, and soon enough, the books will start calling.
My intent with this page is to publish a chapter or two of what I'm working on and possibly review a few of the books I have read recently.
I hope you find something of interest!
ariel of the old people - a short story
Ariel Of The Old People
I wrote this in 1993 while working in Mississippi. I was taking a few classes to pass the time at the local Community College and one of the classes was Creative Writing.
The State of Mississippi hosted a writing competition every year and I was encouraged to enter into the competition in the drama category. I decided to create a short story based based on a minor character in Shakesphere's play, "The Tempest". At the suggestion of my teacher I did it in a script-like format. To my surprise I was awarded 1st place in the State and 2nd place in the regional competitions.
I think I was awarded a certificate and $100 bucks for the first place win and $50 bucks for the second place win. Ah! Fame and fortune were mine!
There is one small typo within the four pages where they mis-transposed the story.... It's all good!
